Therapy for OCD
OCD can present in many ways.
Intrusive thoughts, images, or urges that feel alarming and out of character
Checking, reassurance-seeking, or mental/behavioral rituals that bring brief relief, then demand more
A heavy sense of responsibility, as if something terrible will happen if you let your guard down
A need for certainty because trusting your own feelings and judgment never felt safe
Distance from your emotions, with the distress showing up as obsessions and compulsions instead
Shame about the thoughts and rituals, and secrecy about how much of your life they take up
For many of my clients, OCD is not random. It began as a way for a young nervous system to feel safe or in control. The obsessions and rituals make emotional sense, and insight alone rarely loosens them. My clients want it to actually settle.

What therapy looks like:
-
Maybe you already know… but if not, we identify how emotional neglect shaped your adaptations and what they’re protecting.
-
Developing the ability to notice, name, and tolerate emotion, often for the first time.
-
Approaching the critic, the achiever, and the numb part with curiosity rather than fighting them.
-
Known as Memory Reconsolidation-
Providing the new experiences that allow old beliefs (“my needs are too much,” “I’m on my own,” “I’m not enough”) to change.
-
Carrying the changes into your relationships, work, and daily life.
Other FAQs:
-
OCD symptoms are a product of your mind predicting or recreating to an experience interpreted as a threat. The behaviors (thoughts or actions) of OCD provide temporary relief… but they also reinforce themselves.
-
If you feel these loops are mild and they are not disrupting your life, you may not have a need for treatment. But if these intrusive thoughts and repeated behaviors are impeding daily functioning (even in one area), it might be time to consider getting hep.
-
Understanding is a vital first step, but patterns formed through experience often need a new experience to shift. That’s the focus of my work.
